Audubon ZooThe Audubon Zoo Family Nature Club kicks off fall with a meeting on Saturday, October 3rd from 9:30-11am.  Zoo employee, Brenda Wolkenhorst will be greeting families at the black iron gates to the right of the main gate.  Activities will take place in the zoo education garden.

The Family Nature Club is free and is supported by a grant and offer an opportunity for families to play together outside with natural materials and enjoy unstructured free time outdoors.  No need to call ahead, just get some comfortable shoes on and head to the zoo.

Need to find something for the kids to do when school is out?

The New Orleans Jewish Community Center is offering a program for children on the days that they have off from school.  JCC Membership is not required to participate in the program.  For students in grades K-5, the kids can spend the day playing under supervision.  Here are the current dates for the program:

September 25

October 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 26, 27

November 3, 6, 11, 20 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

The program is from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. with before and after care available.

Fees for the program are $45 per day member / $55 non-member.  Before Care runs from 7:30 – 9:00 AM for $8 day and After Care runs from  3:00 – 5:30 PM (5:00 PM on Fridays) for$14 day.

They do have a mini camp for the Thanksgiving and Fall break however, membership is required to attend those days.

Teacher Workshop: Día de los Muertos
Wednesday, October 7
5:30 – 8:30 PM

The Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane University and Ogden Museum present a K-12 teacher workshop to celebrate Day of the Dead!  All participants will receive light refreshments, 2 free tickets to Ogden After Hours, teaching materials and CEUs. Workshop will focus on the altar exhibition at Ogden Museum through November 10.  Register here.

Artist Workshop: Drawing Demonstration

Join Michael Meads for a unique opportunity to gain insight into his creative process. Coach Dave is starting to recruit for his Kids Soccer League starting the last week in October.  The league is for kids aged 3-6 and runs from October to December.  For $99, your child will be a part of an itty-biddy league with great individualized instruction with smaller groups.  Coach Dave is known by the kids which insures 100% participation.  Practice will be held on either Monday at 4:00 pm or Wednesday at 4:30.  There is no transportation from Audubon Charter School to Audubon Park for practice.

Good News!! The After School Newcomb Tutoring is starting back up next week!

ANT is a free tutoring service located at Tulane University, which pairs Tulane students with K-8 students from the New Orleans area. The goal of their club is to assist kids with homework and help them to establish good study habits. Your child will be paired with the same Tulane tutor each week in order to build a relationship as a mentor and friend!
Tutoring will start next Tuesday January 26th and Wednesday January 27th! The sessions will take place from
6:00- 7 pm in Newcomb Hall Room 25 (basement level).
The students are matched to a a tutor using the results of a survey that can be obtained by emailing  the supervisors of the program at ant.supervisors@gmail.com.  They will send you a survey to fill out in order to match your child with a tutor.
